It comes on the heels of a cool down period about a year after the original game engine was completely scrapped and replaced with what was dubbed the NGE or new game engine. The method of game play was changed from a click and wait (commands went to a list to be performed in order) to a click in real time as your commands happened at that moment, or twitch based game play.
What the players thought of the NGE didn’t really matter much in the long run - and in the end, everybody just kind of agreed to disagree that it was all in all a good thing, and whether or not the move to a console (of course the PS3 is going to be that console.)
