I will never understand the hardcore gamers mentality.  The people that pick up the controller and are suddenly transported into this world where winning is everything and those who aren’t winners are, in their minds, garbage to be treated like complete shit.  I will never understand how someone can pick up a game controller and suddenly think that being able to flick your fingers faster than someone else equates to some achievement earned in real life.  And since we are on the subject of things I will never understand, I will never understand the need to teabag someone (the act of crouching and standing over someones digital corpse, or simply crouching on them, making it appear as tho they are putting their testicles in that players mouth) as it only speaks volumes of the person doing it and not the person its being done to.

I’ve played plenty of games with plenty of people.  And they fall into categories.  Those who understand that winning isn’t everything and the point of the game is to just have fun, and those that think winning is everything and if they aren’t winning and you’re dragging them down, then it is up to them to find some way to make you quit.

Fucking quit – you suck at this game.  Why do you even own an X-box?  You’re horrible at this game, just turn the controller off and leave!

Perhaps it’s the ability to differentiate between what is truly important in a gaming experience and whether or not winning rates up there on a list of priorities.  Of course winning fits in there somewhere, but it shouldn’t always be number one.  There are no cash prizes at stake, no life or death decisions.  The only thing that is really at stake is some minor claim to digital greatness – a number to display your rank (which is also subjective to the skill of not only yourself, but those with whom you are teamed).

So in the end, why does it even matter?  Why do people feel this need to berate those who are lower in skill than they are?  And to call themselves winners?  That’s just a slap in the face.  Yes, true winners are those who talk trash, berate those around them, belittle those whom they think are worthless, and don’t even have the courtesy to say good game when such a phrase is called for.

Because in the end – it is just a game.  I wonder if these same people would act this way in reality, without the veil of anonymity that the internet has provided them.  I would be willing to bet that no, they would not act that way.  But it does make me wonder.

I am a complete asshole – and it doesn’t matter.  I could do everything right, dot the is and cross the ts, and I would still be an asshole.  I could spin solid gold out of my anus and turn it into clouds that hover over a magical land of make believe, where everything you [...]

25 years on the air is quite a long time by the standards of television.  A lot can be accomplished with a franchise that has managed to stick it out for those 2 decades – from the small screen to the big screen to the hand-held screen to the pages of Playboy.  Yeah, Playboy.  According [...]
