Going to the gas station to pick up a pack of cigarettes felt like an after party for a local Gambler’s Anonymous meeting. Yes, the lottery has finally opened in Arkansas, with money going to college scholarships.

I don’t mind the lottery (actually, I’m glad we finally got it) but it seems to me that some people just don’t know when to quit. Oh my God, I just won $2! Now to get two more tickets…

Maybe a $5 dollar ticket once a week, but every day and then buying more tickets with the money you just won? Seems a bit overkill.

And of course, a reminder to play responsibly printed on the back of each ticket. I’m not sure we’ve grasped that concept just yet.
