To the developers/mods/GMs of SWG

To the Developers of SWG:
*I really wish the developers of this game would stop alienating it’s players and community for no reason at all.  You push unwanted changes on this game, unfair policy that is self-conflicting, and patrol these forums like the SS out on the hunt, locking and banning anybody who doesn’t subscribe to your belief in the direction that this game is/should be going.

You break things without explanation, and patch things without cause.  You have a test center, yet reguarly push broken and bug ridden patches on us, only to then turn around and hotfix them for the next two months without actually adding any new content.  And you wonder why we are so upset with you.

You do all of this and wonder why you lose sub after sub, while continuing down this mindset that we are just numbers – and when 2 of us leave, it doesn’t matter – because 2 more will pop up in our place.  You don’t care about your customers.  It’s plain and simple.  Even I can see that.  And locking and/or deleting this thread will only prove that.

Customer Service:

  • Customer Service will know what game mechanics are and are not, and will be able to answer questions in a manner consistent with the answers the Forum Mods give to the same questions.
  • When a Customer calls, he/she will never hear “I don’t know”.  The appropriate answer will be “Let me find out for you.”
  • The automated phone help system will be updated to actually be helpful, and not just one automated choice after another, which 95% of the time ultimately ends up with frustrated customer hanging up.

Game Card Threads (Time Cards):

  • Will no longer be locked for 50 different reasons with no real explanation.
  • Will be treated in the same way that Trading Card Game threads are treated.  Left unlocked, open, and endorsed.  SOE/Lucasarts makes money from both – regardless of who buys or sells them.  The end result is that somebody is buying a card/pack, and SOE/Lucastarts is making the money.
  • Suggestion: more visibility for your product, and less policy endorsing the anti-sale of these items.  You want to make money?  Stop blatantly telling people to not buy your product.

Game Modifications (Game mods):

  • All client-side only effects will be treated as such: client-side only.
  • All threads regarding Client-side only effect modifications will be left unlocked, and unaltered.
  • Hint: You want people to stop modding your game?  Actually listen to the modding community and implement some of these mods that are being so widely distributed.  If some teenager can sit in his mom’s basement and code a better UI than your highly trained developer, maybe you should stop bashing on every thread you come across and learn to listen/look/learn/implement.
  • You know what WoW does?  It has a button you can click in the client that allows you to apply any Game modifications you have downloaded.  It also checks for updates for said mods.  You know what the developers of SWG do?  They lock and delete any threads containing information about helpful mods and then say that they don’t support them.  This practice will stop.

Information:

  • Any information that is pertinent to the gameplay of the community will be relayed in a helpful and polite manner.  There will be no more threads locked with excuses like “We’re working on it and you’ll know when we let you know”.  These threads will be answered in an open and honest discussion with answers like “Here’s the problem as we have found it, and this is what we plan on doing.”
  • We will not be treated like observers – we are your paycheck.  And you will treat us with the respect and the dignity that we deserve.

There are so many things I could go into.  Too many, really.  Bottom line – stop blaming the community and locking its threads for reasons which are self conflicting and make no sense.  Example below in regards to Game Card sales:

006: Its an In-Game item traded for real world money, it may be a game card, buts its a Months subscription equal to a $15 value.

Me: See, that would seem logical if the person were actually given cash for said items. But they aren’t. By your logic, selling packs of cards would be against the rules because each pack is equal to a $2.99 value.

006: Correct, We just don’t want to see the selling of the Cards, weither they are giving them away or offereing a trade. Ventrillo or team speack or private forums we have no control or problem over, I hear it all the time when im in Vent people asking if anyone needs game cards. That would be the safest route to take.

Bottom line, you need to get your act together.  Without us, your company would have no reason to exist. Maybe you should start treating us more like the House/tuition/beer payments we are, and not the red-headed step children you’d like to pretend us to be.
