Gamecards for Credits: the word

In a PM discussion with Mod006, I ask why threads supporting sales of gamecards for in-game credits continue to get locked and deleted. This was their answer:

Me: Reason for locking thread:
“Don’t use the forums to advertise the sale of characters, items or in-game currency for real-world money.”

Reason why this doesn’t make sense:
They aren’t selling in-game items for real world money. They are selling a game code to be used in the game to extend the recipients subscription.

I (among many others) am not following the logic on the reasoning behind this, the cheif reasoning being that we can buy game cards and sell them for in-game credits yet we can’t buy a game card (an actual game card) and sell it for in-game credits.

One of the reasons I came up with for why the Game-card – credit transfer seems to be frowned upon is that there is a 3rd party involved and the legitemacy of the code cannot be properly verified (kind of circumventing potential fraud).

If that’s the case, I think this needs to be explained in full so people understand it a little better, instead of giving vague reasons such as the one listed above (as not only does it not apply to the thread, it doesn’t apply to the actions the thread was promoting.)

006: Your not supposed to trade or sell these or advertise the selling of these on the forums, If they were they slipped thru the cracks, We dont visit the Trade Galaxy very oftern unless something there is reported. A good example was yesterday……Trading a Jetpack for a 30 Day game card. Its an In-Game item traded for real world money, it may be a game card, buts its a Months subscription equal to a $15 value.

Me: See, that would seem logical if the person were actually given cash for said items. But they aren’t. By your logic, selling packs of cards would be against the rules because each pack is equal to a $2.99 value.

006: Correct, We just don’t want to see the selling of the Cards, weither they are giving them away or offereing a trade. Ventrillo or team speack or private forums we have no control or problem over, I hear it all the time when im in Vent people asking if anyone needs game cards. That would be the safest route to take.

I do how ever appreciate you asking for the explanation in a PM rather then making a thread on the forums. I wish more would follow the example. Thanks Very Much!

So there you have it, straight from the horse’s mouth. It’s ok to purchase game cards with in-game credits – as long as you don’t do it in front of them. Makes sense, right?
