S. Darko

There’s a reason this wasn’t a theater release. Quite simply put, it just wasn’t theater material. While it did hold true to the feeling that was Darko, it didn’t quite capture it like the original did.

There is a lot of familiarity in this sequel that one could find comforting, and nothing in it felt tired or worn. Yet it seems to have missed the mark in a big way.

In the first movie we knew so much about the title character. We were able to draw a connection to him, and even though we knew what was going to happen to him in the end, his passing was still able to pass such a powerful sense of loss. I find it amazing that in this movie, the so-called chosen one to whom saved the world, we knew barely anything about and yet his passing was no less tragic.

I suppose people will want to watch this and expect it to be of the same caliber as the first movie. Those people will be highly disappointed. That’s with any movie and its sequels – if the movie is just good enough, there is no way that the sequels will ever be able to outdo their originals.

But for those who watch this in the hopes that it will expand on the universe that was brought before them 8 years ago, I believe you’ll enjoy this movie.

It wasn’t amazing, and yes, there may have been a few plot holes – but overall, it was a genuinely pleasant viewing experience.
